Ben is a Board Member of the Chicago Kent Patent Hub. As a Board Member, Ben has worked to provide inventors in need with access to pro bono patent prosecution services.
Ben is a Registered Patent Attorney focusing on intellectual property portfolio development and management and anti-counterfeiting enforcement. His patent-related responsibilities include prior art searching, infringement and freedom-to-operate analysis, patent application prosecution and negotiation and preparation of licensing agreements.
In addition to his patent practice, Ben conducts trademark and service mark availability searches and clearance opinions, copyright registration, Internet domain disputes and enforcement actions with both U.S. and foreign Customs offices to prevent importation and exportation of counterfeit goods.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Ben spent six years as a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Motorola Mobility where he worked with an engineering team to design advanced smart phones and DROID family projects. At Motorola Mobility he provided mechanical and electro-mechanical component and assembly design, service design and was involved in project prototyping, finite element analysis, materials analysis and research, design of experiments, tolerance analysis, statistical analysis and intellectual property development. As part of his engineering experience, Ben completed Motorola’s Six Sigma Green Belt, Yellow Belt and White belt training in statistical analysis, experimental optimization and quality control directives.
Ben received his J.D., with an Intellectual Property Certificate, in May, 2011 from DePaul University College of Law. At DePaul, Ben served as a student advocate in DePaul’s Special Education Advocacy Legal Clinic, where he negotiated with Chicago Public School representatives in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to advocate for special needs clients’ to receive educational accommodations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Ben graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May, 2005.
Ben is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
